Presented by Chris Balch at the Society of North American Goldsmiths 2019 Conference in Chicago
Maybe making and selling work is your sole occupation. Or maybe selling work is part of what you do as you teach in a traditional academic setting. In any case, you need to understand a few rules. If you think art-speak is bad, have you ever tried to read legalese? In this entertaining and engaging talk artist, attorney and former SNAG Board Member Chris Balch will offer insights, suggestions and even a few answers to make earning a living a little less (legally) scary.
Potter and lawyer Chris Balch advises clients on how to protect themselves when things don’t go according to plan. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and nearly 100 jury trials, Balch has assisted diverse clients including artists, other lawyers, Fortune 500 companies and police officers. When not fighting for “Truth, Justice and the American Way,” you can find him comfortably attached to his potter’s wheel creating functional art from formless clay.
